The Friends of Wyperfeld National Park
The Friends of Wyperfeld National Park is a group of volunteers that meet regularly in the park to undertake a variety of projects that benefit the park.
The group was formed in 1976 and has met at least once a year since that time.
We now have gatherings three times a year:
- The ANZAC Weekend in April
- The June (King's Birthday) Long Weekend - when we have our AGM
- The first weekend in October

The Friends are responsible for many of the great things you see in the park, including:
- The development and maintenance of the Discovery, Tyakil and Desert Nature Trails.
- Planting thousands of native pine trees on dunes that had been denuded by fires and over-grazing.
- Mapping invasive weeds and assisting with their eradication. The Wonga Campground is now free of the noxious Horehound largely due to the consistent effort of the Friends.
- The Buloke Woodland Regeneration program to restore some of the degraded woodland areas in the south of the park.
- The solar lighting system in the Wonga Campground Information Centre and toilet blocks.
- Investigations into the native flora of the park.
- Development of the Wyperfeld App which provides detailed information about the features of the park.
- For more information about recent events and activities go to the Friends of Wyperfeld National Park Facebook page.
